Advice That Harms Wives

August 10, 2012

The Financial Security Project of Boston College has posted a blog entitled "Social Security Advice That Harms Wives".  For the complete blog see (fsp.bc.edu/social-seucrity-that-harms-wives/).  It refers to a new survey of U.S. financial advisers and how the survey's finding demonstrates "the lack of understanding of both the benefits of delaying and compounding factor it can have on the spouse".  Delaying the Social Security Start-Date for receiving benefits can have a positive effect on a surviving spouse's income for years or even decades.  A course, delaying the start-date is not always the correct decision, but needs to be given careful consideration.
